How Being Independent Looks Like?

Is being independent makes you happy? Do you think being independent is easy?

Well, maybe most of us especially millennials thought that being independent gives us more freedom to do what we want without parents’ intervention. Right? Many of us are feeling excited to move out from our home; at last, we are now free from all the rants and making troubles with our parents. But before we discuss the good benefits of being independent, let’s point out first what are the challenges that we might encounter in living alone.

1. Anxiety and loneliness
If you are a type of person who is too much attached to our family, we might feel the anxiety and homesickness once we move out. The possibility rate on how we can easily move on depends on how we deal with it.

2. Self-pity
Sometimes, we may feel how pity we are because we are living alone far from our comfort zone and far from the world we used to live. There are times, it will come up in our mind that no one cares for us; no one will take good care of us especially when we get sick or tired and hungry from work.

      3. Feel unsecured
When we are self-reliant, we don’t know who among those people are trustworthy. We feel unsecured to disclose important matters or even to share our pieces of stuff with them. It is hard for us to get along with them and entrust our whole faith.

So, what are the benefits of being independent once you overcome all those unfavorable thoughts?

1. It teaches us to budget and saves up our penny
Being alone means we are responsible to make our own living. It is very important that we spend on the right expenses or else we would find ourselves starving in the corner of our apartment.  No one will support us if we were running out of a budget. When we are living alone, we learn to strategize and innovate unique ideas on how to prolong our budget until next paycheck. Being wise on budgeting helps us to cut our wants and focus only on our needs. So, to BUDGET and SAVE UP is very important if we want to survive in this world.

2. We learn how to cook
When I was living with my parents, I didn’t know how to cook; I didn’t have any recipes in my mind. I was clueless that time until I moved out from our home and find myself in a large city. I learned how to cook my meals because making my own food help me to save up my allowance. Well, it’s a double purpose; I learned how to cook while saving up.
Who helped me to cook?  Thanks to my mother. She’s very accessible every time I need her to send me a recipe, and from that, I started to learn cooking.  YouTube also helped me in food experimentation until it directed me to love this field.
3. It makes us more mature
You heard it right! Our views on life will change when we are far from the comfort of our home. We realize how important to change our mindset to more valuable things; create ideas on how to uplift our lifestyle and seek knowledge than before.

Being independent help us to realize that every second is important for our personal growth. We think and act more mature than before. This is the time we think how we want to foresee our future and build solid perspective in our life.

4. It builds courage and self-esteem
To build a strong courage is not so easy especially if you are a kind of person who is tame and vulnerable. But when the time goes, we will notice how it helps us to be more confident and trust ourselves. It helps us to face the world with all the guts.
     5. It gives you an opportunity to explore other places
One beautiful thing about being independent is to discover the world beyond of what we can see today with enough freedom. We can able to leap, to go around and to find our inner peace.

6. Creates social responsibility
No man is an island. No man stands alone. To be independent doesn’t mean we need to live outcast from the society. Every one of us has the responsibility to socialize and find friends to share our laughter and quirkiness. So, go outside and make some chitchat.

7. Learns to embrace your personality
This is a good time to value ourselves above all. Learning to appreciate ourselves is the first step before others will appreciate us. Be independent and be the best version of ourselves!

8. Have a sense of satisfaction
This is a feeling that cannot be filled by anyone. Other people can be our source of happiness, but does it give us real satisfaction? Once we achieve our goal with our sole effort, it gives us satisfaction and makes us more complete. And it is more satisfying when we hear our inner self-whispering, “I did it!”

Are you ready to be an independent person? Whatever it is, make yourself proud and savor the sweet gift of life!

Cheers!
Earl
